This large vessel is wheel thrown stoneware with a porcelain slip on the surface. The interior is lined with glaze made from wild NW clay. The exterior is covered with a crackle flashing slip that has oxide colorants rubbed into the cracks highlighting the natural texture and giving more color to the surface. This piece was fired in a gas fired soda fired to 2250 degrees. A matte glaze develops on the slip and a contrasting glossy glaze develops on the raw clay body, both following the path of the glaze saturated flame. Non-glassy textures are sanded with a fine grit diamond pad post firing giving a luscious feeling to the matt clay surface.
