Soda Fired Tea cups

Soda Fired Tea cups

Greetings! I am a studio potter, ceramics instructor, and geology aficionado residing in West Seattle. In 1995 I was drawn in by the tactile interactive quality of pottery. Since then I've been passionately entwined in making pots with an emphasis on how the pot feels in your hands and its use in every day life.

I have a soda kiln at my studio and visit local wood fire kilns in the quest to express innate beauty through form and surface. Both kiln types utilize flames to paint the surface of the pots. I refer to this as vapor firing. I find the recorded synergy between fire and clay to be rich and engaging. This process echoes the geologic evolution of our landscape. Each piece emerges as a unique representation of that landscape. I anticipate the unloading of every kiln, I hope you do too!
